Biology 3rd Partial

Our personal comments

Martha: If I could describe this partial I would say different, even though the topic we saw, genetics, is not in my comfort zone I feel like I got a chance to really explore the topic and even got comfortable with it.

Without a doubt an experience from this partial was when we went to the lab, the main objective was to discover how certain things below the microscope. In my opinion it is always a surprise to do this practice, I love seeing everyday things into the microscope, since it opens my sight and helps me realize my perspective of life is not the only perspective there can be.

The first thing we saw was a mold, I thought it would be very disappointing, and it was not, at first all we could see was a lot of bubbles that made no sense, then our wise teacher aided us and then we saw a different world, it was not what we expected.

Then we proceeded to see flowers, they were not what I expected, I had this idea they were going to be magnificent, and even though it was not what we expected, I would not say it was magnificent, but it was very interesting. We got to see the reproductive parts of the flowers which were very interesting.

Without a doubt my favorite part of this visit to the lab was when we got to put the things we brought from home in samples, I felt like a true scientist. The teacher first gave an explanation on how we were supposed to do it, once he did it and of course with his aid, we got a chance to do it. We needed to take some of the mole we had, we brought some old peach and we had to carefully place it in the sample along some azul de lactofenol. I was the first to do it, and I felt so nervous I started shaking.

In conclusion this was a very diverse partial, since not only classes we also had days were we went to classes or we had the rally. This is definitely an experience I will remember from this semester. I think biology has not always been my favorite topic since sciences is not something I am particularly interested on, but in times going out of the routine is fun, without a doubt what I learned in there was something I will definitely remember.

Darlen: In this partial we learned about various topics regarding genetics, a topic I personally find very interesting. We also made a trip to the laboratory, where we brought several different leaves, flowers, fungus, etc. in order for us to observe them under the microscope. Identifying its sexual reproductive organs with the help of teacher Eduardo.

He guided us in the process of making the samples from scratch, the materials we had to use, explained the substances involved in the staining procedure, how to collect the sample, among other steps. I enjoyed it very much and understood it perfectly thanks to the professor’s patience and facility to teach. We had to make observations based on what we saw in our slide. That was in the case of fungus which the teacher led us to examine, but in the other hand, flowers had to be observed in a stereoscope because they’re bigger structures and cannot be appreciated enough in a microscope.

On this third partial we focused on genetics, a very extensive topic in my opinion but absolutely intriguing. What are chromosomes, their variations, genes, inheritance, dominant and recessive treats, a little bit of history on its discovery and investigations. The pioneers and fathers of genetics such as Mendel and his experiment “El chicharo”.

Also something very interesting I was taught was the Punnett square, where we can calculate the probabilities and observe which genes would be dominant or recessive. Learned about mutations which I found to be the most interesting of them all, the types, its consequences, how it shows up on the individual, etc. Fascinating!

Regarding the topic of the rally... it was great. I was expecting more, like they told me last year was, but it wasn’t as fun and dynamic. But still I had a great time and the activities they had prepared for us were enjoyable and entertaining, I wish we would’ve had more time for more games and trivia questions, but I liked it. The first station, we had to throw a bag for it to land on the figures on the floor, and depending on that, was our score. We didn’t do great, we aren’t that skilled in terms of throwing stuff, so we lost.

Then on the first question, we didn’t know we could use our phones to solve the problems and lost again. On the twister we did great, we remained a considerable period of time, our teammate moved and positioned their limbs so easily, they were almost elastic girl. They didn’t really fell theoretically but they told us it was otherwise (don’t agree), but we are still proud with the effort they put into it.

On the second question we were quick, our answer was partially right but we didn’t arrive on time, and they gave it to another team, but still we did good. And the last game was the rope, we had to pull until the very last person of the opposite team crossed the cone, this one was sad, they pulled us like light feathers. Anyways we lasted for a couple of seconds more than I thought and that’s enough for me to know we did our best effort and a little more. I had a great time and a couple of laughters with my teammates and that’s what made this experience unique.

Dominic: When I was a kid I always wanted to study something related to the human body, I sort of had this sense of purpose that comes with studying the human body.  Understanding it better could lead to groundbreaking treatments, helping people live longer, healthier lives.

Having biology this semester I was settled on biology being like a class that could redirect me  to careers related to the human body. Biology this semester was full of different emotions.  It started with pure fascination. Learning about how the human body works, all the intricate systems keeping us alive, felt like cracking a "secret code".

But then came the frustration. Punnett squares?  Mutations?  These pathways seemed to twist and turn like an endless maze in my brain.  Studying felt like banging my head against a wall, and the test scores added a constant knot of anxiety to my stomach. There were moments of pure joy, though.  Suddenly, a concept would click.  It felt like a light bulb switching on. Those moments of understanding were pure bliss , a reward for all the struggle.

Now, as the semester ends , there's a bittersweet feeling.  Relief that the tests are (almost) over, but also a bit of sadness.  I'm realizing biology isn't just memorization, it's a literal story about life itself, a story I'm only just beginning to understand.  And even though it's been a frustrating, confusing journey, I can't wait to see what the next chapter holds, finishing  on this biology class feels weird.  Yeah, sure, studying for tests was quite hard. But there was something magical about it all. Learning how everything in living things is connected kind of blew my mind.  Every new discovery felt like another chapter in this incredible story of life.  And now it was over.  No more freaking out (in a good way) (and bad way) over how the human body works. I know there's more biology out there to explore, but this class, this specific journey, feels finished.

Aaron: This partial was a rollercoaster of emotions, we have learned so much new things specifically in this semester with teacher Eduardo, I am more than grateful with all of the things he had taught us dedicating large amount of time and effort which we are very thankful for that, all of the information he provided us will be a useful tool for our future, even if our chosen career won’t have nothing related to biology, knowledge is never enough and will sometime be useful.

I am so glad we had the chance of doing so much things during the past 6 months since day 1 of this amazing partial, I would say that one of my favorite things we did this semester/partial was the science rally since it consisted of having biology knowledge but not only that, you had to have also sporty skills considering that the hosts of the rally assigned us activities like twister, sack throwing which I almost got 50 points but it went at the very edge of the circle so I ended up having 0 points and the rope game that people went crazy on it including myself, and for the questions I would say that they were tricky because of the pressure we had of competing against tons of teams with around 5 members in each and every team. Great experience would do it again totally.

Unfortunately I cannot talk about the lab in this summary/essay because I was not present, I was in Mexico city eating tacos, just kidding, I went to compete along with my dance school at a dance competition called tdr (the dance revolution in case you wanna go search it up) in which we did so good that we ended winning many platinum (higher score than gold) and high scores and tops, personally I won top 10 and top 5 with my 2 solos, I am happy for that but kind of sad because I was not at school at the lab with teacher Eduardo, maybe next time.

I am so sad for the fact that tomorrow is our very last class with teacher Eduardo, my voice is crackling without even talking just writing, sounds weird but it’s true, I’ve never met a teacher like him, he has all of the qualities and values that a high school teacher should have and I am more than honored to have him as a teacher, thank you so much, really.

Yaretzi... (you are not ready for this)

Basically, it was going to the lab to make a science change and that was all interactive the others but notes and put together and activities you have the notebook but we really don’t know much of the room this semester was Light was calm but I liked that if we went out if we can get out of our comfort zone we did activities that I don’t remember.

I’m not sure they have to do with biology but if it has to do with math and because with exercising on this occasion we asked teacher of physics to help us do a technique to The rope that we lost again Was just as fit We were settled in line It was me in the front,Marta, Domini and Aaron and then we lost the role and we did not win my fourth place. There were too many mistakes and it was nothing just the way in which we were treated especially.

What i understand biology involves understanding the vital processes of organisms, from the cell to the ecosystems. Reflecting on biology leads us to question how living beings interact with their environment and with each other, as well as considering the impact. awe went to the lab and do some activities like examining data and evidence to draw conclusions about evolution, and the part that we can saw in the microscope  and other fundamental aspects .

It provide us as  students with a fundamental understanding of the vital processes of organisms and the functioning in our body . It encourages critical thinking, observation and data analysis, skills that are useful in both scientific and everyday life.

It also explores concepts such as the chromosomes ,Mendel's law , post mendelian and mutations.
